Papa’s in town

Max: the big news in your life is that you are really, really into fire trucks.  It’s unclear exactly why: you can’t know it’s all about cool men fighting fires.  You really just know it’s a red truck and a siren.  But whatever it is that you think is going on it’s clear that you think it’s very, very interesting.
We live diagonally across from a fire house. Every time we walk out the door, you point in that direction. We often have to take you to see what’s going on.
You even know that if you get us to pick you up so you can see out the Eastern windows, that you can see one of the trucks that’s parked on the street.  You’ve been so into firetrucks that we took a gift Grandpa Richard bought for you a while ago out of the closet.  It’s a little wooden fire station with a fire truck (in the pictures) that’s technically for ages 4 and up but you seem ready for parts of it now.  Maybe Grandpa Richard saw this coming.
Your Papa Larry’s in town.  You’ve been having a lot of fun visiting.  He brought you a little plastic fire truck and a fireman’s hat.  You are having fun playing with the truck, and brought it with you on our walk.
Of course, nothing substitutes for your Monkey when you are tired.

You had a lot of fun and excitement this weekend. You went to the park with Papa Larry, Dad and Aunt Amy each morning (mommy slept in). Aunt Amy carried you in the baby carrier the whole way – she was very excited to have your company. Then today, Papa larry, Dad and I took you for a swim back at Teardrop Park.

You had your usual grand time playing in the water.  You have been so pooped at the end of the day that you’ve been going to bed a little earlier and sleeping a little later (yay!).  Your doggie Zulu chipped a tooth this weekend and is going to have it pulled tomorrow.  We are all worried for her, poor girl.

Well I, for one, can not get enough of these wonderful weekend escapades; – the best portraits of Max yet.
Max: I see from the pictures of you with the fire truck, that you are poised to stand; – pretty soon!
And Papa Larry must really be chafing at spending so much time with Auntie Amy, you and Daddy. That’s a tough weekend, and I’ll bet Max is not the only tired one now.

MAX – What a fun visit we have had – Central Park every day for our morning walk with your Daddy & Aunt Amy. The weather has been HOT – You enjoyed your swim at Teardrop Park yesterday. You are growing and are starting to get into everything but no walking yet – almost!! You are a darling little guy with a great personality and a fabulous smile – I love the time we spend together!

Finally, glorious satellite again. We have been at-sea for several days crossing the Atlantic from Iceland and Greenland. As interesting as our trip is, I knew I was missing the Mondays-with-you photos. We have finally gotten to the library in Newfoundland, and here I have a computer where I can see you with your fire trucks and warm enough weather to swim. Aren’t you just the explorer now…up and across the rocks and into whatever stream of water is in sight. See you in exactly one week from today. Can’t wait.

Max’s eventful weekend (part 1)

Max: you had quite the weekend.  First, you had your first haircut …

Let’s just say it went about as expected …

But you look great now

and you recovered quickly

especially with the help of a new toy and a balloon from the store nearby.

For more of Max’s eventful weekend, please continue on to the post below

Your little locks are still there. Weren’t you a big boy to get your hair trimmed. Zayda and I are in Iceland looking at you on your website. Love

MAX – So you’ve had your first haircut . . . but you’re still our little baby . . . . very exciting to be able to see this important event – Love, Papa

J and I loved looking at these pictures of Max’s first haircut; a great journal of the event with the most honest expressions.

Max’s eventful weekend (part 2)

After the haircut, it was on to lunch on the Upper East Side.

They still don’t know what hit them.

We offered to windex the windows but they are very polite.

For the last installment, please continue on…

Thank you, thank you, thank you for that haircut. Now we know this is not a little girl. Max, you look adorable.

That’s my Grandson – schmearing up the windows and looking so darling one could never get angry – wonderful haircut!

Max’s eventful weekend (part 3)

Then later that day it was off for a visit to auntie Lexi and uncle’s grant’s.

Uncle Grant was at work – he missed all the fun.

You and Bowie enjoyed catching up.

You wreaked some havoc on their apartment.

You played with Uncle Grant’s new modem (don’t tell him).  And enjoyed the tv flickr, telephone and answering machine.  Auntie Lexi let you walk Bowie for a little bit.

And then it was back home.

On Sunday you woke up with a little cold.  You went off to the park and had a great time with dad, Aunt Amy, and Zulu.  By the time you got home, however, you had a full blown cold.  You spent the day sniffling and would not nap.  You are finally sleeping but I can hear you sniffling across the hall, poor baby.  Hope you feel better tomorrow.

On a last note, these are two unedited videos from last week.  You love playing with the toy train Jean bought you for your birthday.  It’s one of your favorites.

Well Max; I’m exhausted by your weekend. Maybe because it’s 12:15 a.m., but I couldn’t tell who was feeding you your bottle in Auntie Lexi’s apartment: was it mommy or auntie? Also, Auntie Lexi knows that the best toys are in the kitchen – love those blue bowls.
Your haircut is great (I’m sorry you didn’t take Uncle Grant there for a haircut, too). I’m proud of mommy for finally biting the bullet, but I need to know if she saved the first lock.
And as for Thomas the Train, I think mommy’s whooping was what made you so silly; it made me laugh too.
Bet your cold is gone by tomorrow. See you next week.

Love, Lola

MAX – Hope you’re feeling better today – these videos really made me laugh out loud. It sounds like your Mommy really got you laughing – what a great way to start my day !

Uncle GrantAugust 23, 2010 - 10:46 am

Max: I’m so sorry I missed your visit to our home yesterday! (Whatever you do, do not follow in your uncle’s footsteps and become a corporate lawyer.) Glad, though, to see our kitchenware and electronics gave you such a good time. You and I will have to catch up when I file this brief; perhaps a quick trip to the swings? Congrats on your new hairdo! I cry when I get my hair cut too, but it’s because I have so little left…

Stay tuned

We’re back from Maine and we’ve had a very busy time settling back in and getting ready for work.  Max: you are really happy to be back among your toys and in the city with lots of cars.  Stay tuned for a more complete update in the next day or two – I’ll email you a heads up!

PapaAugust 16, 2010 - 8:23 am

Thanks – cute photo – will be waiting for your update!

SuSuAugust 16, 2010 - 1:15 pm

Mommy is so busy. She is making the suspense even better. I will stay tuned.

This is the best photo ever….if that could be said…as they’re all wonderful!! But this one has in it’s own quiet way, a wealth of meaning, intimacy, humor, simplicity. The best!

Gee, Nance; it’s just two gay guys in the shower. One of them definitely is goig to be a plumber.
