Max’s Halloween

Max: you are still fighting off your cold.  This weekend, we took it a bit easy and you stayed around the house more than usual.  By Sunday, you were really ready to get out of here.  We took you over to City Treehouse for some indoor play.

They have  a big water thing that you can splash your hands around in and do all sorts of activities.  It’s pretty cool.

You love playing with the water.

And you ended up getting pretty soaked.

In addition to playing with the toys …

… and squirting things …

… you always want to drink the water.  There are all sorts of fun things to climb on there

Not sure who had more fun – you, or your dad.

You are doing an excellent job walking.  You pretty much walk everywhere now.

PapaNovember 1, 2010 - 7:32 pm

MAX – It looks like you had a great Halloween! You are like a little fishy with your connection to water. City Treehouse must be a great place to have lots of fun. You and your Daddy are having a blast. So glad you are feeling better. I love you!

SuSuNovember 1, 2010 - 8:10 pm

You look so cute walking out of the big tree. I haven’t seen you walk in person yet. Can’t wait. You’re brave to check out all that new play equipment. Did you guys leave Zulu at home? I’m not used to seeing you without her. Bet she was glad when you got home.

A fish! That’s what you are Max.
The only thing that frightens me is daddy’s bare feet!

LolaNovember 1, 2010 - 8:55 pm

A FISH! That’s what you are, Max!
The only thing that worries me is Daddy’s bare feet!

Kitten on the keys, bambino on the bridge

Max: your dad decided that since you have such a great love of music, you should have your own keyboard.

While I was at B&H looking at high tripods, your dad was in the keyboard section, looking for something for you.  He decided at $50 we could afford to have it not last too long.  You’ve decided it’s especially fun to make music with your feet.

On most days, your dad plays a vigorous game of hide and seek with Zulu.  Since you were a tiny baby, you have found this fascinating.  Now you insist on being part of the action.

Your dad throws the stuffed alligator, you both hide, and then you come screaming and laughing out of your hiding place when Zulu finds you (in this case, you were hiding in your room).

You’ve also decided it’s really fun to play in our bathtub.  Your dad humors you.

This weekend, Aunt Lexi and Uncle Grant invited us to ride across the Brooklyn Bridge with them.  It was great fun and mommy took a lot of great photos – only to realize tonight that her memory card was full of Saturday’s client shoot and all the pictures (except for three) that she thought she took, she did not (phooey)!
PapaOctober 26, 2010 - 7:06 am

MAX – Continue playing your keyboard and I’ll come see you in concert at Carnegie Hall. You are really getting to be a character – funny, loving and always my adorable grandson with an exceptional personality. I love you!

LolaOctober 26, 2010 - 9:13 am

Well, Msx, your music will always be unique because of your 20-digit technique.
I would love to be there when you finally figure out how to turn on the water in that bathtub with dad trying to sleep in there.
And mom, I loved the photos on the bridge of Auntie Lexi and Uncle Grant; I guess we will all have to imagine the scene.

SuSuOctober 26, 2010 - 3:18 pm

I’m not sure ho’s laughing harder, you or your dad. He knows the best hiding places. The bathtub is a new one on me. Bet Zulu hasn’t thought to look for you there.

Midnight Max

Max, muffin, you were quite a challenge this weekend.  You decided that you would not sleep.  Not sure exactly what was going on but you seemed to wake up with rather bad dreams or something of the sort at about 3:45 on Fri, Sat and Sun mornings.

Needless to say, we were all quite exhausted by the process – you included – and it was hard to enjoy the weekend.

Even Zulu was completely miffed – she proceeded to throw up at 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. this morning.  We all need rest.

You went back to bed this morning after we sat and rocked for a while in the wee hours.  Then you actually slept until a bit past 6:30.   At that point, you were fresh and rested and ready to start your week with Jean – oh boy.

Luckily on Sunday your aunt came over to play with you and give us a little break.  She thinks you are a bit wild right now but she really wasn’t put off by your over-tired, cranky state (we are lucky).

Zulu rested.

You two wrestled and chased each other.

You practiced standing and walking.

And making  your funny faces.

See how confident you are on your feet now?

You are still enjoying all your vehicles.

Even if you are scaring Zulu with them.

Let’s hope for a peaceful night tonight.

I just don’t know Max, I come on to the scene and your two parents and the dog are just dazed with exhaustion and frustration and the next thing I know, you and I are crawling around and giggling. What’s with them? Anyway, enough with the fresh air and bike riding, it’s time for you and me to hit the sweaty, noisy, smelly subways together. I can’t wait. Love, auntie

SuSuOctober 18, 2010 - 11:24 pm

Max, you look so big when you’re vertical. I think you’re definitely ready for a subway ride. Can you imagine how excited you’ll be to hear that engine roar. Better than the helicopters you’ve been mesmerized by?

PapaOctober 19, 2010 - 6:50 am

MAX -You are entitled to be cranky sometimes as we all are. So proud of the fine job you are doing walking and having such fun with your Auntie. You’re getting to be a big boy!

Max: Auntie Nancy knows boys; she always wrestles with them. However, I think someone should take a look in that diaper now and then. That’s a very odd shape for a diaper.
I hope you feel better; I have a bad cold and know how it is to be stuffed and scratchy-throat.

Max’s weekend: part II: Max and Lola hit the streets

It’s time to share part II of Max’s weekend last weekend.  First off – behold the new haircut.  Max: you look like a real little boy, not a baby anymore.

Then – the highlight of the weekend – Lola hit the streets with us (as did Auntie Lexi).

Auntie Lexi couldn’t believe how nonchalant you were about the whole thing.  You are just in Max’s world when we go biking.  Nothing phases you.

Lola was totally game for a bike ride – you cannot stop her.  Although she did have a great time complaining about the traffic, her thighs, etc.

But she was a trooper.

And she did it with a smile.

You seem to be engaged in some deep conversation here

I love this picture of your Aunt Lexi – it’s stellar

Look how happy you are to have an entourage

Your dad pointed out the sites

See the statue of liberty?

Love this one too – great esprit!

LolaOctober 14, 2010 - 8:49 pm

Max: So now your Lola wears leg braces – permanently!
You’re without emotion as you wheel thru the barricades, around people, ringing your bell when I ring mine. You couldn’t care less about anything, so long as the motion doesn’t stop.
I was misled (Was there any other way to entice me to do this?):
“Oh, mom; it’s just a short ride, flat and easy.”
Not only was there “heartbreak hill”, but at least 100,000 bodies to weave around on a gorgeous blue-sky day, in one of Manhattan’s most popular parks. Duck and weave, yell and ring.
While I cringed, you loved it all.
Lucky Ducky, you are Maxi. You’re used to having the moon and stars.
(I can’t understand how your Aunt can go bike riding and look so fashionable; while I just sweat.)

nancy kramerOctober 14, 2010 - 10:07 pm

There’s nothing better than pictures of a family playing together!

PapaOctober 15, 2010 - 6:58 am

MAX – A great time was had by all – such fun!

Michele BowenOctober 15, 2010 - 8:48 am

Beautiful photos, gorgeous boy!

SuSuOctober 15, 2010 - 9:26 am

What a hoot! I don’t believe that complaining for a minute, Lola. It’s all a cover up for what a blast it was and hopes that it’ll be there for each visit to come. You look quite the hip grandmother in your helmet. I’m praying that the weather holds out till the 1st weekend in December. Say a prayer. I think I will be daunted by the gillions of bikes around me, too, though. Max, I’m putting my bike pants out now!

alisonOctober 22, 2010 - 4:19 pm

Max, your Lola is a star and apparently game for anything. This is to your advantage, enjoy!

Max’s weekend part I: Max gets another haircut

Max: we’re going to make this week’s Mondays with Max into two posts because it’s late and mommy needs to go to sleep.  Lola is visiting.  You had a lot of fun with her this weekend.  But not so much during your second haircut, which you had on Saturday.  We found a new place in the neighborhood that is part children’s store, part children’s salon (very clever) and they have an airplane to sit in when you get your hair done.

We thought you’d love this.

And indeed you did at first.

You are even initially into the pretty woman who was to do your hair.

And quite distracted by the plane.

And maybe a little interested in the comb.

Until you remembered the horror of having your hair cut.

And it all went bad.

Daddy brought out a giant sock monkey.

And that was good for a second.

And then you remembered what was going on.

You looked pleadingly at mommy.

Lola tried to distract you.

You just wanted it to stop.

Poor baby.

But look how cute you were in the plane

Zulu has seen it all.

To be continued later today …

PapaOctober 11, 2010 - 8:18 am

MAX – I knew you were multi talented , but flying an airplane while getting your hair cut
is exceptional! You are just too cute!

nancy kramerOctober 11, 2010 - 11:15 pm

Max, I’m 63 and I have to tell you that it doesn’t get any easier!
I think you’ll agree that hippies had the right idea.

LolaOctober 12, 2010 - 10:48 am

Max, I would only remind you, that after one of these hair-cutting episodes, the adults leave the shop wrung out. Auntie Nancy may be right: a pony tail may be the answer.

SuSuOctober 13, 2010 - 8:16 am

Pretty adorable.
